It is an almost natural harbor where you can find a sandy beach ideal for families with children right next to it, as well as  famous tavernas and cafes overlooking the area.

While in Panormo you can visit the imposing basilica of St. Sophia built around the 6^th AD century which is considered as one of the greatest

Christian churches in Greece and the largest in West Crete and also see some remnants of the Venetian Castle.

Panormo was the main port for transportation of the large quantities of olive and carobs produced in the area

and you can still visit the old Carobmill, which is renovated and is used as a cultural center.

The way to Rethymnon by visiting Margarites with their potteries, the ancient city of Eleftherna and the historical monastery of Arkadi is another excursion.

The way to Heraklion from Perama to monastery of Vossakos, the Cave of Doxa and the traditional hotel/village of Arolithos.

A venture inland to the famous traditional villages of Mylopotamos driving on the old highway both directions either towards  Heraklion or towards Rethymnon.

It is one hour to Knossos Palace and Heraklion city with the many museums, culture and it is ideal for shoppig.

Plakias, monastery of Preveli with its famous beach and all surrounding area is worth visiting, too.
